Shifting trends in skin medical cosmetic – Age of maintenance

As people live longer, more and more seek skin treatments to deal with aging skin to maintain their looks. Younger people are also coming to the clinic to get preventative treatments, to slow down aging of the skin. Then there is the other group of people seeking treatments to maintain their looks to be as youthful as possible.

A report published in American Society of Plastic Surgeons states that there were 13.4 million minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures, like injections and Restylane fillers, performed in the United States last year.

Building trust

According to Dr. Rani, aesthetician at Derby Skin Laser & Cosmetic Clinic, years ago clients used to come to the clinic with a specific treatment in mind for their specific concern. They used to be less willing for advice for what is the best treatment for them. For example, for facial lines there are a range of treatments available: Botox injections, fillers, skin peels, radiofrequency skin tightening, laser treatments or a daily skin treatment home care programme. Now “I get clients who come and explain their skin and age related conditions/issues and ask me to decide the best choice of treatment for them as individuals,” says Dr. Satya Rani.  This change has come after building a long term relationship of trust with our clients over the last 12 years.

Age group shift

We do see more and more younger clients coming for botox injections, and they want to start taking care of their appearance early in life. This is known as “preventative maintenance botox treatment”. There are other people, who associate maintenance treatments with an extra expense. Little do they realise that it is like a pension: you save it today for your future.  You are having cosmetic botox injections today, so that your skin’s damage is prevented and you look younger in your advancing years.

Combination cosmetic treatments

In the last decade or so combination cosmetic treatments are on the rise. As people see the benefits, they want to have regular combination treatments to save time and effort. Once they have had botox then they go for skin tightening and skin resurfacing laser treatments. Once they have had a good experience of the treatment and trust the provider then they are willing to try other options available, to make their skin look more youthful. The treatments for saggy jowls, sun damaged skin, spider veins, loose skin are radio-frequency, lasers and skin peels. These can be carried out in combination on the same day as these procedures have no downtime.  Similarly, unwanted hair, tattoo removal and thread veins, botox injections and filler treatments do not have any down time.

Duration of cosmetic treatments

There are treatments which last a few years, some six months, some just a few weeks. The majority of our clients want to remain as their own original self and are only looking for improvement and prevention. Prevention is an equally important part of maintaining your looks – a physical SPF30 is good to avoid any direct impact of sun rays on the skin. The second rule of prevention is to do your research and see a specialist in the field of cosmetic skin treatments.

Delivery of treatments

Botox injections and fillers are carried out at a CQC approved premises, at the Derby Skin Laser & Cosmetic Clinic. There is some discomfort associated with the treatment injection but this is taken care of with the application of anaesthetic cream before the treatment. There is some redness for a few hours which can be easily covered with makeup.

As early as your thirties, consider receiving some of the injectable cosmetic  treatments to avoid needing a full face lift later. A full face lift is possible with non-surgical (fillers) and surgical cosmetic treatments. Then the regular treatments in the clinic and prescription medication to regenerate the skin cells to be used at home.

Important message

The effects of the majority of cosmetic anti-aging procedures are temporary. Cosmetic treatments are carried out with the aims in mind to reverse, improve, refresh, rejuvenate and brighten the skin and face. To maintain the effect will require maintenance treatments.
